I wish to submit the name Maillard of Guernsey as the rightful ancestors as verified by the British royal navy. In the Crimean war a surgeon named maillard was awarded the Victorian cross....the only naval doctor ever to get one.
His father ran the newspaper on the island the Comet. There is a hall named for him at the naval college and as the official accounts state he is a directly descended from the Francis drake. My mother Frances Maillards family tree is full of the name drake and Francis. it has been tradition to honor him by naming a child for almost 400 years
