Thomas Oakley Drake and his Ancestors
Catherine Henville Oakley was born 02 November 1829 and was christened at All Souls St Marylebone London in 1830. Her parents were George Oakley and Mary Williams, Catherine married Thomas William Drake on the 12th April 1853 in Ealing London. Catherine died in September 1899 in Islington London.

Catherine and Thomas had four children, Eliza A Drake born 1859, Thomas Oakley Drake born 1863, Hugh Oakley Drake born 1866 and Arthur Oakley Drake born 1868. On the 1881 census the family were living at 23 Roderick Road London. By this time Thomas William was dead, and previously had been a storeman at middlesex prison, and Thomas Oakley had joined the army. Eliza A Drake I know nothing about, Hugh Oakley Drake married Annie Ellen Redin in Islington in 1893 and on the 1901 census was living at Hillside Patterson Road Hendon Middlesex London and had no children.

Arthur Oakley Drake married Esther Turner in June 1891 at Gravesend Kent and had six children, Esther died in march 1903 at Gravesend. Their children were Arthur Oakley Drake born 1892 in Gravesend and died 1922, Thomas Charles Drake born 1893 in Gravesend, Kenneth Oakley Drake born 1893 in Gravesend and died 1922, Katherine Drake born 1895 Gravesend, Hugh Oakley Drake born 1898 Gravesend and Lizzie Drake born 1897 Gravesend.

Thomas Oakley Drake [my greatgrandfather] joined the Royal Artillery in Woolwich London in 1878 and was stationed in India. He fought in the Afghan wars 1878/79/80 and was also in the mahsud/waziri expedition of 1881. He married Kathleen Maude Devine, her father was Lt William Devine, in 1887 at Fatehgarh India. He had five children , Kathleen Oakley Drake born 1888 in Fatenhgarth India and died 1972, Thomas Oakley Lewis Drake born 1889 Simla India, Hugh Oakley Drake born 1891 Simla India, Allan Oakley Drake , my grandfather, born 1893 in Lewisham London and Phyllis F Oakley Drake born 1908 place unknown. In the 1901 census Thomas Oakley Drake was living at 8 St Leonards Road Tooting Graveney Wabdsworth London and was Deputy Examiner Military Accounts Department. He retired from the army with the rank of Commissary[Hon Captain] in 1905 and lived in Simla India where he was Registrar Department of Commerce and Industry Goverment of India. He retired from that position in 1916 and went to live in Australia. Thomas Oakley Drake died in 1928 in Wentworh NSW. His wife Kathleen Maude married a Peter Gray at Five Dock Sydney in 1932. She died in in 1944 at Wentworh Holroyd Municipality in her name of Drake. Allan Oakley Drake [my grandfather] was a master mariner and in 1921 married Margaret Mackintosh in Liverpool and on there marriage certificate she described herself as a actress.

At the time of her marriage she was 24 years of age and her father Alan Mackintosh was deceased and he was described as a Gentleman. On the 1901 census the only Margaret Mackintosh I could find who was the same age was living in Liverpool At 4 Meaburn Road Liverpool with her grandparents Joshua/Margaret Heap and also her brother Joshua L Mackintosh. Allan and Margaret had two daughters Kathleen Mary Drake born 1924 in Liverpool and died 1981, Patricia Frances Drake born 1926 in Liverpool. Patricia was my mother who was living with Arthur Henry John Snook and the had two children , Frances Margaret Drake born 1949 Highgate London and myself Steven John Drake born 1951 Market Drayton Shropshire and was adopted in 1954.In 1955 my mother married Robert Russell in London and he was a engineers capstan operater, My sister at this time was living in Glasgow with our grandparents. Dear Roy,
we have e-mailed each other in the past.I would like some info to go on your aboved named message board. Captain Thomas Oakley Drake, who was mentioned in the 1916-1928 who was who, died in 1928 in Toongabbie NSW. .It appears that Thomas Oakley Drake had other children,as well as my grandfather Allan Oakley born in England in 1893 there was Kathleen Oakley born India 1888,Thomas Oakley Lewis born India 1889,Hugh Oakley born India 1891.
Before his death he was registrar department of commerce and industry goverment of India 1905-1916. His wife name was Kathleen Maude Drake[Devine],who died in 1944 in NSW, after marrying a Peter Gray in about 1932. They were my great granparents and I believe the rest of the family followed them to Australia around about 1955 onwards. I am interested in contacting Allan Oakley Drake, Patricia Frances Russell [Drake], Frances Margaret Drake and any one related to them. Thomas Oakley was the son of T.W.Drake and Kathleen mayde was the daughter of lieut W. Devine. Also the surname Snook is a friend of the family and Arthur John Henry Snook was my father.
With all these Drakes with second names Oakley I am surprised no one knows about them or somehow should I be trying to search in India,if so do you know how to go about it.

thanks

Steve
