From: Paula Dunklin Subject: Sarah/Sally Drake, d/o Joel Drake and Amey Hall of Adair co, KY? Date: Friday, April 28, 2000 8:22 AM I am a new subscriber to the Drake rootsweb list and hope that I can find someone to help me in my search for the following: Sarah/Sally Drake, supposed d/o Joel Drake and Amey Hall. Born abt. 1796, Adair Co Married Elisha T. Winfrey in 1815, Adair Co. KY. Believed to have had at least 2 children Elisha died in 1817 Adair Co. Sally married 2nd, Matthew Busby 1821 Adair Co. Marriage is on record in Adair Co. Sally was the 2nd wife of Matthew Busby. His 1st wife was Seluda Tinsley of Amherst Co, VA. William Drake shown as "Attest" on marriage document for Sally and Matthew. Thomas B. Drake was shown as "Attest" on the marriage record of Sally and Elisha T. Winfrey. William and Thomas believed to be Sally's brothers. Matthew is my ggg gfather. I lose track of Sally and Matthew after their 1821 marriage. I've been told that Sally died in 1842, Adair Co, KY. I believe Matthew died before 1850. There are supposed to be documents/deeds in Adair County which list the children of Matthew and which also shows his widow to be a Polly Busby of Lincoln Co, KY. Also shown is Elizabeth/Betsy Busby, age 7. She is listed as a ward of Polly Busby. Could "Polly" Busby be a nickname for Sally or did Matthew marry a 3rd time to this Polly? Was "Betsy" Busby the child of Sally and Matthew or was she the child of Polly Busby and Matthew? Would the biological child of Polly be called her "ward" or could she be a stepdaughter? I believe this Polly Busby is buried in McKinney Cemetery in Lincoln Co, KY. There is a grave there for a "Polly Busby, Born 1800 Died 1888 at 88 years." She is also shown on the 1850 Lincoln County census without a male in the household. There is also shown, Betsy, age 7 yrs and two ladies by the names of Elizabeth Fair and Jane Fair. I believe this Polly is the same as the one mentioned above. I very much need to make contact with a direct descendant of Sarah/Sally Drake who is researching or has researched Sally Drake and her family, or someone who can fill me in on Matthew and Sally's life after they married in 1821. Can anyone help me? Thank you, Paula Dunklin dunk1432@swbell.net |
