On Wednesday 15th April 1896, there was quite a gala day at "THE OAKS", the residence of MR A.J.DRAKE, GLENNIES CREEK, to commemorate the union of the adopted daughter of MR J.A.BOWER, of GOORANGOOLA, to MR ALEXANDER THOMAS.
In the morning the friends of the happy pair assembled to witness the ceremony, which was preformed by the REV FATHER KILGALLIN, at GLENNIES CREEK, the church being tastefully decorated for the occasion.
The young bride looked charming, and was most elegantly dressed in white satin, with wreath and veil. The bridesmaid, MISS ELSIE SATTLER, was very nice in pale pink and white lace. At about 1'oclock in the day 30 guests sat down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast.
The toast of the day was drunk to the health, happiness and prosperity of the bride and bridegroom.
Dancing subsequently formed part of the amusement of those assembled, after which a start was made for Sydney, where the newly married couple intend to spend the honeymoon.
They had a very hearty send-off, amid showers of rice and the good wishes of all present. The presents to the bride were numerous.
