APPRECIATIONS FOR OUR PATRICK PLAINS GAZETTE
I have received many letters of appreciation for some of the articles I have submitted including GREAT LODGE and especially the SINGLETON FAMILY. It is very gratifying to know your effort is worthwhile and of benefit to others.
In recent personal mail I received a letter from Roma Waldron, a SINGLETON FAMILY descendant and compiler of Pioneers, Settlers and Families of NSW Vols 1 and 2 and Vol3 on the way. We had not previously been in contact with each other and she concluded by saying " Where do you find the stories about the family? I think they are great and it is thanks to you that I now have some flesh on the bones of my tree. Take a big bow, you truly deserve it. Where do you fit into the Singleton family? Thankyou, Roma and I have been able to put more leaves and branches on several family trees through your publications including my own RUBIE-CLAYWORTH family. Until about ten years ago I had no idea I fitted into the SINGLETON FAMILY, but do " by marriage". Three of my paternal grandfathers sisters married sons of CHARLES JONES and ELIZABETH REYNOLDS/HONARY ( a granddaughter of WILLIAM and HANNAH SINGLETON). My object with the articles was to endeavour to set incorrect family records straight. In March 1997 I had an enquiry in our gazette for GEORGE HERBERT WILLIAMSON, the Australian pilot of RAF plane which failed to return from a special operation with 138 squadron over Europe on 27/28 April 1944, together with my brother-in-law, Eric Clayworth, two Canadians, two English and one Welsh crew member.I was overwhelmed earlier this year to receive a letter from a niece of GEORGE WILLIAMSON, due to a friend of her late sister reading my enquiry browsing through our gazettes when on her Family History Roster at Toowoomba. Thankyou Judy Donnelly for contacting Pat Lenihan at Roma.We have been able to exchange information with Pat filling in my missing link. GEORGE WILLIAMSON was from Chinchilla, QLD where I have a dead-end with a missing link in my BURTON/ CLAYWORTH family.Pat Lenihan, nee Williamson tells me that JOHN WILLIAMSON of country music fame is a cousin-their grandfathers were brothers. I dare say we only hear of a small percentage of family history researchers who have gained information from our gazette but our thanks to all who have written in appreciation and given additional information to add to our library records.
