NEW ZEALAND ENQUIRY – WADDELL
Mrs. Dot Clayworth, 222 John St, Singleton 2330 is seeking information on the family of
James Arthur WADDELL, born on 23 rd August, 1867 at Maharra, Cairo, Egypt, a son of
Andrew Waddell and Ann McArthur formerly of Glasgow, Scotland and Daisy Dawson who
are said to have married in Auckland, New Zealand in 1907.
At the time of James Arthur Waddell’s death on 5 th August, 1934 at 12 Weka Street,
Wellington, New Zealand he had three sons and three daughters born between 1909 and
1915. James Arthur Waddell was a Plasterer and was buried in the Karori Presbyterian
Cemetery, Wellington, N.Z. His brother, David Ross Waddell was my maternal grandfather.

Dr. John Williamson, 27 McKenna St, Kensington Park, S.A. 5068 and Mrs. Dot Clayworth,
222 John St, Singleton, N.S.W. 2330 are seeking relatives of Warrant Officer Class II Arthur
John George BARNES, son of Walter George and Jessie Barnes of Victoria British Columbia
and Flight Sergeant James Ethelred Smythe, son of Harold Hastings and Jessie Maud Smythe
of St. Stephen, New Brunswick. They were crew members of Halifax LL 356 which failed to
returned to Tempsford’s 138 Squadron’s Base on 28 th April 1944.

and Ettie FURRESS married 1870 somewhere in New Zealand. Leslie Bailey BOWTELL
born 1898 Gore-New Zealand son of Charles and Ettie went to Australia and married
Marjorie Manning GRIFFIN 10-Sept-1927 at Taree, NSW – Australia. Any New Zealand
information would be very helpful.
