Hello:
Looking for info. on Osborne Drake, my g-g-grandfather. Nebraska
City, NE 1865 census shows him (age 35, place of birth: VA); wife
Lizzie (Fox) (age 23, place of birth: Tenn.), and daughter Mary (age
1, place of birth NE.)
Otoe County, NE pioneers' book lists Osborne as a house
mover/carpenter and long-time resident. I have a copy of their
marriage certificate, where Lizzie has crossed out "Elizab" and
written in "Lizzie", dated Nov. 2, 1862, Nebrasksa City, NE. Osborne
is spelled with an "e" in his signature.
Family notes indicate Osborne and Lizzie had seven children, all born
in Nebrasksa City: Mary Isabell Drake (dob: 1864), married Thomas
Wymer, went to Idaho; My g-grandfather, William Rutledge Drake (dob:
1865), married Viola Belle Wymer); George H. Drake; Annie Drake (dob:
1870, died 1885); Elizabeth Drake (dob: 1873, appears to have been
adopted by Jeffries family in NE after mom's death as she's listed as
Elizabeth Jeffries in her marriage notice to Frank Marnell, in NE);
May Drake (adopted by Bickells family; married Hugh Goff, had one
son); and Louella Drake (adopted by Mrs. Cleeves, died 1894.)
Lizzie Drake died in April, 1878; Osborne died shortly thereafter in
Oct. 1879. It appears that Mary & her brother William, having both
married into the Wymer family, left for Idaho & Missouri. The younger
siblings were adopted out. The untimely deaths of Osborne & Lizzie
have created a HUGE brick wall for me for over twenty years. Even the
researchers at the geneology library in Nebraska City can't come up
with anything beyond what I have listed here--no obits, news
articles, other records, etc.
I am hopeful that the names/dates listed here, coupled with the
flurry of activity and goodwill I've seen while lurking on this
