From: Helen Lee Date: Sunday, October 31, 1999 8:29 PM I am researching the Riley Drake family lines. My gr. grandfather was Riley V. Drake. I was told that the initial V. stood for Victor. His father and mother were Riley Drake and Betsy Matteson (spelling not proved yet for Matteson. Could be Madison) According to Oregon History Riley V. Drake's mother died about 3 weeks after his birth. He was born Feb. 15, 1833. Again according to the Oregon History he was reared by a Linus Sutliff. His first child was named Linus Madison Drake. Riley was in the Lost Wagon Train coming from Missouri to Oregon. Settled in Jefferson, Oregon - married Sarah Jane Johnson dau. of Geo. W. Johnson - moved to The Dalles, Oregon where they lived out their lives. Both are buried at a pioneer cemetery south of The Dalles, called Japanese Hollow Cem or better known as 8-Mile cemetery. Riley and Sarah Jane Drake had eleven children. Will gladly share what little info I have. My grandmother was Arminta May Drake b. Jan 21, 1870 in Hubbard, Oregon.
