1. BENJAMIN1 DRAKE was born 1820 in New York. He married (1) MARY MATHEWS,
daughter of ROBERT MATHIS and MILLY.
He married (2) MARY WHITE.
Notes for BENJAMIN DRAKE:
It is assumed that Mary Mathews the mother of Robert and James died about 1850
and Benjamin married again to a" Mary" who shows up in the 1860 Waushara Co.
Wisconsin census.
This is suspected since in this second marraige there
appears another Robert Drake born to Benjamin and Mary! Also in the same census Robert and James are listed as living with Robert and Milly Mathews in Saxsville Wisconson. There is also a question to the Mathews name.
On several documents the Name Mathis shows up?
Another lead to research is the Benjamin Drake and Mary White from Oshkosh
who had a son named Zephannah born Jan 14, 1856, and another entry of the
same name born Jan 19, 1865. I would suggest that Benjamin probably lived in
the Oshkosh area.
Emma (Drake) Owens mentioned in one of her letters that as
a small child she remembers her Grandfather Ben Drake visited them in Shawano.
She said that he resembled her father James Drake. This would lead me to
believe that Benjamin was still alive and living in Wisconsin about 1900?
From the 1850 Federal census of Wisconsin, Benjamin and family are listed as living in Utica Wisconsin. They moved to Saxsville after this time.
Children of BENJAMIN DRAKE and MARY MATHEWS are:
2. i. ROBERT2 DRAKE, b. September 13, 1846, Chenango,New York; d. May 12,
1932, Kenosha,Wisconsin.
3. ii. JAMES MONROE DRAKE, b. December 19, 1849, Big Flats,Stuben Co. New
York; d. March 29, 1934, Shawano, Shawano Co. Wisconsin.
Children of BENJAMIN DRAKE and MARY WHITE are:
iii. BENJAMIN2 DRAKE, b. 1852, Saxsville, Waushara Co. Wisconsin.
iv. ROBERT DRAKE, b. 1854, Saxsville, Waushara Co. Wisconsin.
v. JOHN DRAKE, b. 1855, Saxsville, Waushara Co. Wisconsin.
vi. MARY DRAKE, b. 1856, Saxsville, Waushara Co. Wisconsin.
2. ROBERT2 DRAKE (BENJAMIN1) was born September 13, 1846 in Chenango,New
York, and died May 12, 1932 in Kenosha,Wisconsin.
He married ELLEN ROBBINS
May 29, 1869 in Shawano, Shawano Co. Wisconsin, daughter of STEVEN ROBBINS and
SARAH WRIGHT.
Notes for ROBERT DRAKE:
At the age of 18,Robert enlisted as a Drummer Boy in Company E, 38th
Reg't,Wisconsin Inf. on 14 April, 1864 at Ripon Wisconsin. He was mustered in
on 18 May, 1864 at Madison Wisconsin.
He was wounded at the Battle of Weldon
Railroad on 21 August, 1864 and sent to Alexandria Va. hospital. He suffered
seven (7) shell fragment wounds to his left side.He remained in the hospital
until March,1865 at which time he was granted a furlough back to wisconsin.
He returned to Alexandria in April,1865 and was mustered out on 27 May, 1865.
He lived in Utica, Winnabago Co Wisconsin with his parents when he was four
years old. This was recorded in the 1850 census. A review of 1860 census
Saxeville , Waushara Co. Wisconsin shows Robert and his brother James birth
places as New York and they were living with their grandparents, Robert and
Millie Mathews.
Also in 1860 Benjamin and Mary Drake lived at Saxeville with
other children starting with Ben Jr.showing Wisconsin as place of birth
(1852). The Question remains, why did Benjamin and Mary( if she is the same
Mary as Roberts and James Mother) name another Son "Robert" born in 1854?
Following the Civil War, Robert went north to Shawano Co. Wisconsin. In 1880
Robert had moved back to Saxsville. In 1900 he and his family lived at Rome,
Adams County, Wisconsin.
By 1920 he and Ellen lived alone at Nekoosa, Wood County Wisconsin. He died at
Nekoosa
Children of ROBERT DRAKE and ELLEN ROBBINS are:

iii. ALBERT ROBERT MONROE DRAKE, b. September 24, 1872, Shawano,Shawano Co.
Wisconsin; m. MARY, 1898.
Notes for ALBERT ROBERT MONROE DRAKE:
The 1900 census shows that Albert and Mary had been married for 2 years.
Albert was listed as a farmer. I suspect that Alberts first wife died after
Goldie was born and Mary was his second marriage. He lived near his parents in
1900.
iv. MARY DRAKE, b. February 15, 1874, Shawano, Shawano Co. Wisconsin; m.

Notes for JOHN E. DRAKE:
Not much known about john. In the 1920 census there is a John Drake (right
age) living in Nekoosa near Robert and Ellen Drake so I suspect he is their
son.
John and his wife ( she was born in Norway) lived alone in 1920, no hint
if there were any children. More research required.
