Descendants of Zephaniah Drake, Sr Here ia another Drake/Knapp Family that I have recently been working on jointly with Mrs Nancy Bello, of Port Jervis, NY. While there is still much work to do on this family and the descendants it is none-the-less a good start and is above all a viable working base. Some of the information was also furnished several years ago [1986] by Mrs Frances Allen, of Pen Yann, New York, a descendant of Hannah (Knapp) Owens, first husband, Gerhom Owens., a member of the D.A.R.. He married (1) Ann Knapp6,7 Abt. 08 March 1760 in Goshen, Orange Co, NY, daughter of William Knapp and Margaret [Thompson?]. He married (2) Hannah Knapp8,9 Aft. May 1805 in Goshen, Orange Co, NY, daughter of William Knapp and Margaret [Thompson?]. Notes for Zephaniah Drake, Sr: Many of the early Drake Pioneers and their families were buried in the Mongaup Cemetery. When the Rio Dam was built in 1926, those buried in the Mongaup Cemetery were exhumed and reburied at the Lower Mongaup Cemetery, near where the Mongaup River flows into the Delaware River. Among those headstones still legible are the stones of Zephaniah Drake, Sr, his sons and their families. As far as is known there were no children born of his second marriage to Widow Hannah (Knapp) Owens.
