Date: Saturday, 19 September 1998 12:52 Is anyone out there researching the surnames Smalley or Drake? I have ancestors by that name who probably originated in Devonshire and came to America. John Smalley came on the ship William & Francis to New Jersey in 1632. Francis Drake, born about 1615, also came to New Jersey. He died 24 Dec 1687 in Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey. I have been told that Devonshire records were destroyed in the WW II bombing. Is that true? If so, are there any records held by families or libraries that could shed light on the families of these two? Don E.
