Notes on the two John Drakes in New England in the 1630s |
From: Alive1now@aol.com Date: Sunday, 1 June 2003 7:13 AM Your Drake web site is awesome. Thanks for all your hard work. I've attached a memorandum on the confusion between the John Drake of Ashe, co. Devon, and the John Drake of Hampton-in-Arden, co. Warwick, both of whom were in New England in the 1630s. The John Drake of Hampton-in-Arden, co. Warwick, was the John Drake who ended up in Windsor, CT. Until fairly recently, Drake scholars assumed that the John Drake in Windsor, CT was from Ashe, co. Devon. That assumption is probably wrong, as the attached memorandum indicates. Many of the older authorities are still cited as correct. I note on your fabulous website that the apparent error is repeated. I thought that you might want to reflect on the attached.
