DANA DRAKE, farmer, P.O. Sharon Centre, was born in Sharon township, Potter Co., Penn., November 4, 1844, a son of Simon and Mary D. (Warner) Drake. His paternal grandfather was a pioneer of Ceres, McKean Co., Penn., afterward removing to Illinois, where he died; and his maternal grandfather was Seth Warner, a pioneer of Bingham township, this county. The parents of our subject settled in Sharon township about 1839, and cleared and improved the farm now owned by Jacob Falling, his father dying in that township in 1886, aged seventy-three years. Simon Drake was married twice, his first wife being Mary D. Warner, by whom he had four children who grew to maturity: Haline (Mrs. George Burdic), Seth B., Dana and Mary L. (Mrs. William Crocker). His second wife was Mrs. Melissa Murray, and by her were born six children: John W., Lydia B. (Mrs. A. Wright), Eugene, George H., Milton and Gertrude. Dana Drake was reared and educated in Sharon township, and began life as a lumberman and farmer. He cleared a part of the farm he now occupies, and made all the improvements in buildings. In 1866 he married Helen, daughter of Thomas J. and Ursula (Gibbs) Burdic, of Sharon township, and they have four children: Maggie (Mrs. Horace Pratt), Jesse, Eddie and Fillmore. Mr. Drake enlisted September 17, 1864, in Company D, Thirteenth New York Volunteers, and at the end of one year was honorably discharged. He has served one term of three years as commissioner of Potter county, and has held nearly all the local offices in Sharon township; is now serving his second term as justice of the peace.
