Joseph Drake was born 1630 at Buckland Abbey, Devon, England studied at Oxford, died testate on Oct. 1708 at Upperton. He was in possession of the Star Jewel. In February 1668 he married Margaret Crymes, the daughter of Ludovic Crymes, and she died in 1668. His second wife's name was Grace. His will names his eldest son Bamfield, his son Francis, his wife Grace and his daughter, Elizabeth.
