born 1755 in Nash County, N.C. ( who later moved to
Robeson Co., N.C. and then to Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky) was the son of James
and Sophia (Valentine) Drake. James Drake was born in Devonshire, England
and was baptized May 8, 1725. He was the son of Francis and Mary
(Buckingham) Drake, who were married in Devonshire, where their marriage and
the birth of their son James are recorded. Francis Drake, son of the Rev.
Bamfield(Bamphylde) Drake, was baptized on August 2, 1701, in Farway,
Devonshire, where his baptism ( and that of his brothers, Joseph, August 11,
16-- and Bamfield, October 1704) is recorded. the Rev. Bamfield Drake,
Rector of Farway, Devonshire, was the son of Joseph and Margaret (Crimes)
Drake. Joseph Drake, son of Sir Francis Drake (1st Bart. of Buckland
Monochorum) and Joan (Strode) Drake, was born in 1630 and died in October
1708. Sir Francis Drake was the son of Thomas Drake and the nephew of
Admiral Francis Drake.
Albrittain Drake and his father, James Drake , both served against the
British in the Revolutionary War.
Many of the descendants of Albrittain Drake's sons--Silas, Mosley
Colllins, William and Benjamin Michael--are now living in Mississippi and
other Southern States.
