I am desperately trying to compile a "family history" novella for my Grandfather's 70th birthday and I need some help filling in some gaps...
My name is Teri Drake. I am currently living abroad in Auckland, New Zealand, but originally I am from Jackson COunty, Georgia. My father is John Clark Drake, who is the son of Clark Marion Drake, both of which were born in Madison County. Clark Marion's father was Jesse Clinton Drake, who was married to a lady named Lillie Maude (Tolbert) Drake. Jesse Clinton's father was James T Drake, who was married to Mary C. Martin. Obviously there are a lot of cousins and uncles and I can fill in those gaps for anybody who might be curious. I also have some dates if anyone may need the.
What I need is some information about James T. Drake. Unfortunately my Grandfather does not know his Great Grandfather's name, so I cannot get past James T. and Mary C. THis is a big problem as I want to trace back my line of the Drakes as far as I can...I just cannot seem to find anything about James T Drake before the 1860 census. I desperately need to know who his father was, where he was born and any other relevant information. I suspect and have been told by distant cousins that most likely I am related through Josiah or Turner Drake, but I've researched them extensively and have found nothing.
I do know that my family has been buried in Kidd Family Cemetery in Crawford Georgia for centuries. Also, James T owned a store in Madison County, a "General Store', for many years, and whilst I don't know the name, it seems that someone might have some record or even memory of this place.
Any help or insight, or even suggestions anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
