During the mid-1800's Drake's from Piscataway, NJ
found themselves finally settling down in the
Friend, Nebraska - Saline County area of Nebraska.

Their roots went deep - with a lasting influence
on the community, including the Drake Schoolhouse. Primary lineage is traced to William
Sutton Drake.

Do you have pertinent information that cna augment
this interesting "Drake" community?

Update on Drake's that moved to Friend, NE area.

First, the main figure in the migration to Friend,NE is William Sutton Drake.

Together with family members, extended family &
friends, they relocated from Illinois to the
Friend, NE area. By 1880's, they were well
established within this area.

[ William, daughter Saerah & son named William Perry were born in
the communities in or near Sussex County, New
Jersey. His father was named Ebenezer Drake.]

William's second wife was named Rebecca Nichols/
Nickols. As a widow, she had several children
already. With William, she later had another daughter named Fanny Jane Drake - who would later
marry a first cousin named E.C.Mellick - and
live in Atwood, Kansas.

Please contact me - I have much more info - several family contacts.

I am not clear on the date of Mary Ann (Drake) Blair death as shown in your
e-mail. Mary Ann Drake Blair died 27 January, 1909. I have pictures of her
tombstone and a copy of her obituary.

I don't know any more about her except that the 1900 Census of Jefferson
Co., NE showed her parents as having been born in MD. There were a number
of Drake families living in Monroe Co., OH in the 1850 Census but I have not
been able to connect them. I would think MA's father was William and her
mother either Elizabeth of Mary.
