I am researching these Drake lines; my grandfather Thurman Drake, s/o John, s/o John and Martha Lester.
Martha's father was Alexander and her mother was Martha Arthur, d/o Gabriel and Nakitie "Hannah". Gabriel
is considered the first white man in Kentucky and Nakitie was his Cherokee wife. These familes were in VA,
KY, and TN. I have just discovered that they played a major role in Fort Nashboro in Davidson, County, TN,
which is now Nashville. Susan Drake and James Leeper were the first couple married at Ft. Nashboro in 1780.
Susan's father was Benjamin who was the brother to my ancestor Samuel who married Mary Cox. I am wanting
to know what happened to Mary Cox, (Samuel is listed as dying in Davidson County in 1795). Their son Samuel
married Margaret Preston, I would like to know what happened to her. Also, there is a great deal of confusion
about who Alexander Lester's parents were. Gabriel Arthur is well known because he was an indentured servant
to Abraham Wood and was sent as a scout through the Cumberland Gap in the late 1600's. There is very little
information about what might have happened to Gabriel and Nakitie. Someone remembers seeing a diary written
by their grandson but now can't remember where he came across that.
