While going into extended families, I discovered a connection between Sir Francis Drake of Esher, d. 1634, and John Drake d. 1659, CT. who were not related by blood as proved by DNA. John Drake m. Lettice Shakespeare in 1616. Lettice had a son, Josiah White, by her first husband. Josiah was John's step-son. Josiah White married Ann Barlow b.1600. when Josiah died, Ann married Sir Francis Drake of Esher as his third wife. Sir Francis Drake of Esher, son of Richard Drake and Ursula Stafford, also married Joan Tothill of Shardeloes, dau. of Wm. Tothill of Shardeloes in Bucks, as listed in "Burke's Extinct and Dormant Baronetcies" as the Drake of Shardeloes. Richard Drake was the brother of Robert Drake of Wiscombe, sons of John Drake of Ashe and Anne Grenville. Robert married Elizabeth Prideaux. Their son William married Phillipa Dennys whose son John of the Plymouth Charter of 1606 took his sons to America in 1630, and disappeared. Sons Samuel 1624-1686 and Job were both of Westchester, NY. Samuel's dau. Mary married Richard Headley (my ancestors)and Job's dau. Mary married Samuel Palmer. |
